It was for me the best halftime show in YEARS. You may have heard that Shakira, along with J.Lo, brought a thrilling halftime show at the Super Bowl last weekend. It's now available on HBO On Demand and other streaming services. "Shakira In Concert: El Dorado World Tour" had a brief theater run late last year, and recently premiered on HBO, where I saw it.

Just dizzying, and the reason I cannot rate this higher than 7 stars. Sadly I can't say the same thing of the movie's editing, in particular during the uptempo tunes, where the camera angle changes literally EVERY SECOND. Shakira is in fine form throughout, as is her band which sounds tight and on the mark. Meanwhile back to the show itself, it is in all but name a "greatest hits" set, with all of the expected highlights ("Whenever, Wherever", "Underneath Your Clothes", the Spanish language hits, culminating with the encores "Toneladas", "Hips Don't Lie", and "La Bicicleta"). Later on she also talks openly about her vocal problems (haemorrhage on her vocal cord, forcing the postponement of the tour by over 6 months). After a high-energy "She Wolf", we then get a backstage look on how the show was planned, and it is obvious that Shakira herself was involved in all but the smallest details. The Forum goes dark, and there she comes on stage, strutting with a rousing "Estoy aquí / ❽ónde estás corazón?". We then go to the LA Forum, as fans are storming in to get the best floor spots. "Shakira In Concert: El Dorado World Tour" (2019 release 122 min.) opens with Shakira in an elaborate underwater sequence. This particular show was filmed over two nights at the LA Forum in late August/early September, 2018. Just a few months ago, she released this movie, capping her 2018 "El Dorado World Tour". Shakira made headlines this past weekend with her thrilling Super Bowl halftime show (more on that later). For two nights only, the cinema version relives the larger-than-life show on the big screen, and through documentary footage and Shakira's own words highlights what it took for Shakira and her team to bring the career-highlight show to 22 countries and nearly a million fans, following the drama of having to postpone the entire tour due to a vocal cord injury in November 2017.

Following the hugely successful release of her album El Dorado - which eventually earned her a Grammy for Best Latin Pop Vocal Album and a Latin Grammy for Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Album - Shakira returned to the world stage with her most celebrated show yet, performing recent smashes such as "Chantaje" and "La Bicicleta" as well as hits from her 20+ year repertoire including "Hips Don't Lie", "Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)" and "Estoy Aqui", to sold out stadiums and arenas across the planet. Now, she celebrates her triumphant return to the stage in 2018 with a thrilling concert film documenting her acclaimed El Dorado World Tour, to be shown in theaters worldwide this November. Since then, she has continued to break barriers and records around the world with her unique blend of Latin sounds, rock and roll, and world music. Shakira is a truly global superstar who, by the age of 18, had taken Latin America by storm, before conquering international markets at 24 with her crossover hit "Whenever Wherever". Boosted by the radio hit "Whenever, Wherever"/"Suerte," the set became an instant pop sensation. Following the release of '90s breakthrough albums Pies Descalzos and Dónde Están los Ladrones?, she was primed to take her place on the global stage with her first English-language effort, 2001's chart-topping smash Laundry Service. Noted for her rock-influenced approach, Shakira maintained an extraordinary degree of creative control over her music she wrote or co-wrote nearly all of her own material, and in the process gained a reputation as one of the genre's most ambitiously poetic lyricists. After achieving superstardom throughout Latin America, Colombian-born singer and songwriter Shakira became one of Latin pop's biggest international crossover artists, selling millions worldwide and collecting hundreds of awards in the process.
